Studebaker trucks for sale are not common
but they can be found.

1850's Conestoga Wagon

The long history of Studebaker trucks began in the 1850's in South Bend, Indiana where a company was found to produce freight wagons. From the very beginning this name became an important part of the history of the United States, helping in the great migration to the West. Their first automobile was an electric car produced in 1902. If gasoline hadn't become so cheap and plentiful by the time Henry Ford came up with his model T we might all be driving the

successors to those first electric cars today instead of Japanese hybrids.

The name of this company may sound strange to many people today but their products were very popular from the 1930's to around 1960. Their antique trucks had it all: great looks, advanced engineering and good quality. Around 1950 the company was making some of the best looking pickups around and giving the Big Three a good run for their money. Their trucks were good not only for transportation but they worked very hard too. Many of them can still be found in the rural areas of the United States and other countries.

In the 1960's automotive assembling was transferred to the company's last remaining production facility in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, where they made their cars with General Motors drive trains until March, 1966. The company left the automobile business forever on March 16, 1966. The last car they produced was a Cruiser sedan.

World War II Studebaker truck

Studebaker trucks also made an important contribution to the victory in World War II.

Classic cars and trucks made by this company are hard to find but if you look carefully you may still see some good bargains out there. Parts for these old trucks are also available but you may need to do some serious research when looking for them. Restoration projects get to be a bit too complicated because of the lack of parts and there aren't many restorers willing to work on these trucks. Buyt if you are willing to work hard you may end up with a jewell like the truck below. We found it for sale at AntiqueCar.com but, a few weeks later, it was gone...

Truck for sale

You may have to look hard to find a good Studebaker truck for sale because there aren't many of them around anymore. After all, the company ceased to exist more than 30 years ago.

Besides being hard to find for sale, these old trucks may have to use parts grafted from other brands of trucks because nobody is making parts for them anymore. But there are a few options and we'll offer you some links at the bottom of this page.

1955 Studebaker truck

The most amazing thing for me is the depth of the love some people have for classic trucks. In the case of this brand of classic cars and trucks there's a man in Brazil, a Mr. Ferretti who declares himself absolutely crazy about everything this company ever made. He owns this beautifull 1955 pickup truck

that he restored himself and which made him famous as an aficionado of that brand in his country. People call his pickup Blue Thunder which is not original but fits it perfectly because this truck has a super hot engine and power train.

Mr. Ferretti loves his pickup and helps other people who need parts and advice about restoration. And he is always looking for old vehicles to buy. He has a Website at http://www.studebaker.com.br published in the Portuguese language. If you don't understand that language you can at least see more of his truck and enjoy other great pictures shown there.

In the United States we have Mr. George DeBono, of Daly City, CA, who owns a great looking truck and who is also available as a source of information on how to maintain and ressurect these old trucks. Visit his Website and ask away: http://studebakertruckparts.com.
