Quick tips on how to save fuel

1. Slow down! Speed kills and makes you burn more fuel then necessary.Gas mileage decreases rapidly above 60 miles per hour. Use your car's cruise control to maintain a constant speed.

2. If you drive an automatic car shift into neutral when you stop at a traffic     light.

3. Don't brake suddenly or accelerate quickly. This can lower gas mileage by 33 percent at highway speeds.

3. Keep your windows closed and your car clean for better aerodynamics.

4. Avoid idling. If it's too cold (or too hot) to stay in the car, shut it down and go inside your house, a store or a mall.

4. Maintain tires at the recommended pressure and keep your trunk free of unnecessary weight.

5. Change oil, oil filter and air filter according to what the owner's manual say.

How much fuel would you be able to save with these simple measures? It's hard to say because many factors are involved in each case. But let's say you will only save around 5%. Is that bad? Of course not, because it will add up.

Maybe 5% isn't much if you have money to burn. But don't expect the price of fuel to go down any time soon. The tendency is for them to go a lot higher. There's a chance we'll be paying up to US$ 5.00 per gallon by the end of 2008.
