Old Army Trucks
are mostly used off road
Old Army trucks can be
found almost anywhere and many people love them.
During World War II most
of the industrial resources of America were dedicated to help our soldiers
fight and win. Almost 3.000 cargo ships, the Liberty Ships were built
in 18 shipyards in the United States, between 1941 and 1945. Ford, GM,
Chrysler, Studebaker, Reo and other auto makers adapted their automobile production lines in order do build not
only Army trucks but airplanes and tanks as well.

Most of
the old Army trucks made in the United States for the war were shipped
overseas and a large number of them met their doom in combat. A few
survived and you may be able to see them in use today by civilians
in some countries of the far East and in Latin America. These trucks are high priced collector's items everywhere.

Here we can see how far
the love for an old truck can go. These heavy military transport machines
are hard to find and there's no doubt the restoration of an old Army truck is a
big headache. Certainly there aren't many parts for sale for these vehicles.
They are simple machines which were built to last and to survive the
harshest conditions but they did break and replacement parts for them are
probably very, very rare. Imagine how hard it must be to find a wheel
bearing or a distributor for one of these. Still there are some old military trucks which have been very well restored and preserved for the future.
Since these old trucks are
so tough it's no surprise when we see some of the uses found for them in
the modern world. A military truck with such a high stance and all wheel
drive is an ideal vehicle for off road competition and it can get to
places where most vehicles could never go. The only problem is that even
these mighty machines eventually break a spring or a gear and when that
happens you can be sure that the owner will have a hard time finding a
replacement part.
